Scholarship and admission forms often ask for a percentage, while your transcript shows a CGPA. A quick conversion helps, but you must use the right formula.
The 10-point formula
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 (and CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5).
| 7.0 CGPA | 66.5% |
|---|---|
| 8.0 CGPA | 76.0% |
| 8.2 CGPA | 77.9% |
| 9.0 CGPA | 85.5% |

What about a 4.0 GPA?
There is no single worldwide table for converting a 4.0 GPA to a percentage. A simple proportional estimate divides GPA by 4 and multiplies by 100, but universities, credential services and embassies often use their own tables. Treat any 4.0 conversion as an estimate. For a plain GPA, use our GPA calculator.
Which number should you put on a form?
- Use the formula or equivalence printed by your university, if one exists.
- If the form asks for CGPA and scale, write both, for example 8.2 out of 10.
- If it asks for a percentage and your university gives none, state the formula you used.
- Keep your official transcript ready, because reviewers trust it more than any converted number.
Why conversions differ
Some universities publish their own multipliers, some use grade bands, and foreign evaluators may use a separate scale. The 9.5 rule is widely used for 10-point systems, but it is not universal.
