What is a password generator?
A password generator creates random, hard-to-guess passwords from letters, numbers and symbols. Because it uses your browser’s secure random number generator, the password is created on your device and never sent to a server.
How to use it
- Move the slider to choose a length of at least 12 to 16 characters.
- Tick the character types you want: uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
- Press Generate, then copy the password and save it in a password manager.
Common uses
- New email, banking and social media accounts
- Wi-Fi and router passwords
- Replacing old reused passwords
- Creating temporary passwords for shared accounts
Tips
- Use a different password for every account.
- Longer is stronger. Sixteen characters or more is a good target.
- Turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.

Frequently asked questions
Is the password stored anywhere?
No. It is generated in your browser and disappears when you leave the page.
How long should my password be?
At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts.
Should I use symbols?
They help, but length matters most. A long random password is strong with or without symbols.
