Long documents often include pages you should not send, such as a blank page or private details. Instead of printing and re-scanning, you can split a PDF and keep only the pages you need.
How to split a PDF in 3 steps
- Open the free Split PDF tool and choose your PDF.
- Type the pages you want, for example 1-3,5,8-10.
- Choose Extract these pages or Remove these pages, then press Create new PDF.
How page ranges work
| 1-3 | Pages 1, 2 and 3 |
|---|---|
| 1,4,6 | Only pages 1, 4 and 6 |
| 2-4,7 | Pages 2, 3, 4 and 7 |
| 10-12 | Pages 10, 11 and 12 |
When to extract and when to remove
- Extract when you know the few pages you want, such as one chapter.
- Remove when you want almost everything except a few pages, such as a blank page.
Practical examples
- Send only the transcript pages from a large scanned file.
- Remove a private page before sharing a report.
- Pull one section from a long guide to read on your phone.
Tips
- Page numbers start at 1, not 0.
- Keep your original file safe. The tool always creates a new one.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
- Combine the new file with others using our guide on how to merge PDF files for free.

No. Pages are copied, not re-compressed.
Why does the tool say my pages are invalid?
A number may be higher than the page count, or the format may be wrong. Use the pattern 1-3,5.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The work is done in your browser.
