US tech billionaire Elon Musk launched an AI-powered encyclopedia, Grokipedia .
NEW YORK: Elon Musk’s company xAI launched Grokipedia on Monday to compete with online encyclopedia Wikipedia, which he has accused of ideological bias.
This comes shortly after the billionaire said on X last month that his team at xAI was building something that would be a “massive improvement over Wikipedia.”
The launch came with the promise of a newer version, 1.0, which Musk said would be “10X better” than the current live site, which he claimed is already “better than Wikipedia.”
What is the Goal of Grokipedia ?
“The goal of Grok and Grokipedia .com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal,” he said on X following the launch.

What Is Grokipedia ?
Grokipedia is Musk’s latest project under xAI, the company behind the witty and sometimes sarcastic chatbot Grok, which is integrated into X (formerly Twitter). Unlike traditional Wikipedia pages that are text-heavy and static, Grokipedia is designed to think, respond, and evolve — making information more dynamic and context-aware.
According to insiders, the platform will leverage the Grok LLM (Large Language Model) to summarize, fact-check, and even discuss topics interactively. Users will be able to ask complex questions, get personalized summaries, and receive real-time updates on breaking topics — all without sifting through outdated text or biased edits.
However, the website temporarily crashed before coming back online hours later.
Why Musk Created Grokipedia
Musk has long criticized platforms like Wikipedia for what he calls “editorial bias” and centralized control. With Grokipedia, he envisions a decentralized knowledge network — one where AI curates and corrects information continuously.
“Knowledge shouldn’t be frozen in time or shaped by a few editors. Grokipedia will evolve as fast as reality does,” Musk wrote on X.
How does Musk’s Grokipedia work?
If you want to use Musk’s new online encyclopedia, you will reach a homepage with a large search bar, similar to Google. You can set the colour mode and create your own account.
The homepage also shows that there are currently around 885,200 articles on Grokipedia. If you enter a search term, you land on a page that resembles Wikipedia both visually and in terms of content: with headings, chapters and references. So far, there are no images.
For comparison, Wikipedia said on its website that as of Tuesday, it had 7,081,705 articles in the English Wikipedia.

The page features a search bar on a dark background, and a font style reminiscent of Wikipedia and ChatGPT.
How neutral is the information on Wikipedia and Grokipedia?
Elon Musk’s new encyclopaedia is also intended to be a counter-design. The tech billionaire has repeatedly emphasised that Wikipedia is not objective and has a left-wing political bias. The Wikimedia Foundation commented on a possible bias, stating that numerous investigations over 25 years had found no reliable evidence or proof of this.

The Difference Between Wikipedia and Grokipedia
| Feature | Wikipedia | Grokipedia |
| Structure | Static articles | Dynamic, conversational threads |
| Updates | Manual, user-edited | | Real-time AI-driven updates |
| Data Sources | Community edits | | Live data + verified sources |
| Tone | Neutral and formal | Conversational, witty, human-like |
| Interaction | Read-only | Interactive chat + exploration |
This shift makes Grokipedia feel less like a database and more like a smart companion for learning— one that grows and adapts with you.
Integration With X (Twitter)
Musk has hinted that Grokipedia will be natively integrated with X, allowing users to instantly fact-check posts, explore deeper context, or summarize trending discussions. Imagine reading a viral post about AI, then asking Grokipedia for a summary of related studies — all without leaving the app.
This could transform X into not just a social platform, but a global information ecosystem where truth and trends coexist dynamically.
Final Thoughts
In a world overloaded with information, Grokipedia could be the filter we need — intelligent, adaptive, and transparent. Whether it replaces Wikipedia or simply evolves alongside it, one thing is clear:
Elon Musk isn’t just changing how we communicate — he’s redefining how humanity learns.
